"Hurling" in a lot of places, con artists (Not a good place for kids, also known as scammers), and a lot of bad things. The only thing good is that it is a historical landmark.

I been to carnivals and amusement parks of all sizes and all around the country, and nothing compares to Coney Island. I been reading alot of view points on Coney island and i feel very insulted that alot of tourists and out of towners visit NYC and all they do is insult what we have to offer and talk about how bad Coney island is i understand that Coney may not be no six flags or ceder point but Coney paved the way and made the foundation of the modern day amusment park and carnival, the cyclone is the most imitated roller coaster to date, and us New Yorkers have the original still standing right here in Brooklyn. If there were no nathan's chances are you would never eat a hot dog, us New Yorkers setted trends for the rest of the world to emulate, when you visit places like coney, dont compare it to theme parks, look at it as a part of american history and culture. in order to fully understand my point of view and appreciate Coney u have to be a New York Native- coney island is apart of our culture and apart of my memories of bein apart of this city.
Pros: Cyclone, Brighton Beach, Nathans- this park is the backdrop to alot of movies and pop culture and the most imitated around the country, a good history trip
Cons: Some rides may be alittle too old and need to be renovated or restored. Lack of restrooms.

You know astroland, the only amusement park in the brooklyn area, and most of new york. The amusement park with fireworks, right next to Keyspan park, the aquarium, and the beach full of jellyfish. Also home to the world famous cyclone that nobody rides. Listen, astroland has lots of stands, good rides for kids, and older people. There's just a little thing that gets in the way. There aren't good crowds, the place is dirty, everything is old, and there's even a strret sorrounding some really good rides. Like the zipper, or one of those fast flying whale rides that spin on metal bars. There's also a sled, a simulator, another fast ride I remember being in green. But noone is there to ride it, there all broken down or closed, and the service plays songs with curses, and when the songs curse, they have to speak in the microphone to blank it out, and memorize the songs. You're on the ride for about a half an our, which is not the best, you break your neck, and pay so much. Plus the height restriction is crazy. Not the typical place to go to, but very enjoyable.
Pros: rides
Cons: service

There is nothing on earth like riding the Cyclone for the first time. For starts, it's old. How can something nearly 80 years old hold together? Second, the first drop. As a kid I remember the adreneline pumping as it made its climb up the tracks to the top. I was scared, and it hadn't even dropped. Lastly, this is New York in all its dingy glory! The beach, the hot dogs at Nathans, the boardwalk. You don't have to drive for hours, waste the gas, and stand on long, long, long lines like other so-called amusement parks. Ride the Cyclone, get a tan, walk the boardwalk, see the Cyclone baseball team play, visit an outpost of Russia. Can't beat it for a subway ride!
Pros: Cyclone, History, Diversity

I have lived in Brookyln my whole life, and have visited Coney Island and the amusement park several times. The park isn't the best park ever....but it's worth a visit. Besides, would you rather waste a Saturday afternoon, or at least hang out at the beach, check out some rides, and have a good time?. Coney Island is a good place to visit. I also recommend this place. I have visited this place so many times, and I don't think I'll stop any time soon. ;)

Astroland is a classic, and like a classic movie or a classic car it doesn't have all the new special effects or the state-of-the art engine. But somehow the classic "feel" fills the gap. If you are looking for thrills, believe me when I tell you the Cyclone is scary enough, being that old. The attractions are so original, that they are being copied to this day, like in the show CARNIVALE, where all the scenery and themes are straight from Astroland (Used to be home to world famous showman Indian Larry (RIP)). You got the Brooklyn Cyclones playing next door, and the world-famous Brighton Beach sprawled alongside the park, not to mention the aquarium. So grab the kids, the girl, or the friend, whichever suits you, and head on over to ASTROLAND!!!! (oh yeah, if you get on the huge "impossible-to-miss" ferris wheel, take the swinging cars,....it'll be more...umm...FUN!)
Pros: Cheap, Crowded, Nostalgic
Cons: Loud, No Parking, Untidy

Before I even read the top 10 amusement Parks, I thought of Coney Island, the Coney island of my youth, and when i saw it was rated number 1, I was very surprised, but happy at the same time, no its not Disney or Great adventure, but if your local it is a great place to make memories.

I have been going to Coney since the late fifties It was great then. Slowly it deteriorated, until Tilyou closed Steeplechase sold it to Trump who wanted to tear down everything It didn't work and he sold it to NYC. The dingy old Coney like the one in the Warriors movie was just about finished. The Cyclone was bought by NYC to tear down and extend the Aquarium ; purtist fought and saved it as a landmark. 25 years later it is the mjor attraction and still the best damn coaster in America, The first drop is the greatest period Major air time . Coney is definetly seeing a revival Very diverse culture as Little Odessa is now being felt. There is even plans to revive the old Surf Avenue trolley line Go to the beach get some sun eat some salt water taffy and enjoy the rides.
