ok, I am not someone who is overly concerned with other peoples' opinions, but when my boyfriend kept making jokes about my amateur haircut, i figured it was time for a change. After all, I am not a student anymore. Still, I hate the idea of an uptight salon with a lot of pretentious people who only care about appearances. It is inside what counts. So, I ran into this stylist at a local bar, and he convinced me to stop by. On a whim I di. The stylist I had met, Tony, was booked for the day, but he assured me one of his co-workers could do the job. Seth was not at all what I expected. I am actually pretty sure he is straight! Still, he listened to me, asked questions about the person I was, and what I liked. He wasn't surprised that I hadn't been to a salon before (I used to cut my own hair in the mirror), but realized that I had no idea what I wanted. He took control, and I was stunned! I had a smart, cool cut, but not one that looked like I was an uptight society girl. He gave me tips on how to style it myself, and they actually worked! I have to admit, maybe going to a professional wasn't such a bad idea. The topper is, my boyfriend loved it!! It also didn't destroy my budget. The whole experience was a lot of fun. Maybe I'll have to go back and test whether Seth is straight. Just don't tell my boyfriend!!

I moved here3 three years ago, and since then had been looking for a decent stylist. I came from a big city, and was disappointed with the pedestrian cuts I received. I was beginning to believe that Orlando was really a small town masquerading as a city. Then, I was referred to Shine. I was skeptical when I saw their ads - seemed too over the top. But I took a chance. What did I have to lose? I must say I was stunned at the style I received from Tony - the proprietor. He listened to my ideas, offered a few of his own, and the result was what I was used to in NYC - at a fraction of the price! I couldn't believe I had found such a stylist here! I heartily recommend the salon - you won't get a better cut and style for the price. Orlando is fortunate to have such an accomplished professional.

The service was okay. I felt that there was too much talking amoungst themselves than interaction with their clients. I got extensions and a cut done there and almost $600 later my head was sore from the stylist tugging so damn hard (which apparently they aren't supposed to do). For the four hours I was there, the stylist talked with me maybe twice. The place is a dump and the employees like to to share personal stories (too personal if you ask me) with each other. If you like being ignored go to shine.

First of all I love Tony with all my heart. I have been getting my hair cut with him for 7 years now. I moved to NYC 3 years ago and STILL fly down to orlando to get my hair cut and coloured. When I come back New Yorkers ask me where I got my hair done... The music, decor, and even the staff are outrageous. The staff each decorate their own stations, and really express their personalities. If you want a nice relaxing hair cut with some aromatherapy, this place is NOT for you. If you are opposed to having your hair washed under a guillotine then don't come here. Prepared to make friends, and even plans for an evening during the week. Located right outside downtown Orlando, the staff knows everyone and will not hesitate to drag you along for a drink or 12. :) They have a full range of products, but unless you ask you wont even be bothered with the idea of purchase. Shine is very fairly priced as well. Stuffy housewives need not apply as customers- The staff aren't mindreaders either, as you will read when you sign a user agreement with Tonman. Speak up- be specific in what you want, and if youre ever unhappy just tell them and they will make it right.. afterall if it doesnt shine, they didnt do it :P
Pros: relaxed atmosphere, lively staff, great music
Cons: can't think of any!

Went to Shine for the first time with my friend and loved every minute of the experience! We loved the art on the walls, the eclectic atmosphere, and the music! It was so different than anywhere we had ever been, and really relaxing. The highlights we got came out really well, totally what we were hoping for! Tony took the time to show me some styling techniques for my hair, which I've been practicing and I've been getting better! The whole concept of the salon was bad-ass, from the art to the way all of the hairdressers work together. It is such a difference getting hair done from people who you can really tell truly love what they do. Anyway, we've found our new spot, and we're totally spoiled now! Cindy and Beth
Pros: art, really funny and hot hairdressers, something to look at everywhere in the salon, no pressure to buy products, not too pricey
Cons: none whatsoever

One word can be used to explain my experience at Shine, EXCELLENT! I'm sure every woman in the world has felt the way I was feeling yesterday. Hurt, betrayed and heartbroken. Well, as most good girlfriends do in a case like this my friend Carrie took me to meet the most amazing man I've ever met in my life. Minutes after meeting me (might I remind you this was Sunday evening when everyone else is closed) Tony rushed me away to the salon for "hair therapy: My hair was complete "virgin" hair but just by meeting Tony for those short few minutes I knew I could trust him. I'm not really sure how long it took to make this miracle on my head because the conversation and laughter was flowing the whole time. Not only would I recommend that everyone visit Tony at Shine, I would have to insist on it! Not only did I find a great stylist but a new friend. Thanks Tony for making a horriable day a lot more bearable. See you soon!
Pros: Tony Tony Tony
Cons: not a one

Not only is he entertaining, but Tony is one of the best hairdressers ever. Very funky atmosphere, great music, but most of all I walked out with beautiful, luscious hair color and a stylish cut. I have been at Shine for a couple of years and I have never been disappointed. Bring your open mind and tresses--Shine will not disappoint!!!
Pros: Expertise, coloring, great price, friendly people
Cons: None

I thought Shine was a great experience! Seth was my hair dresser and he did a FABULOUS job! I have received tons of compliments and my husband LOVES it! I went from a washed out dirty blonde with highlights to a rich dark chocolate brown. He also gave my hair a trim and believe it or not he did what I asked him to do!!! I tan indoors and I thought that my color would fade ridiculously but it still looks great! Thank you Seth! I wanted to share my experience because it seems to be that "a certain other" has what I think to be a nasty, and unfounded oppinion of this salon! This salon is different yes, however if you like fun, funky, artsy casual atmospheres, than this is the salon for you. By the way---the floors are NOT dirty! They have beautifull hardwood floors and yes, if you are getting your hair cutt, there might be some "HAIR" on the floor! Everyone at Shine does have a personality so be prepared for fun and interesting conversation.
Pros: Tons of Artistic Talent, Great Personalities, Unique Atmosphere
Cons: None come to mind

Shine is unusual, I was not sure what to expect. I was very pleased with the results, though. I love my hair, and will certainly go back! The atmosphere was crazy but still soothing. Thumbs up, kid!

I'm not sure where some of these reviews are coming from but I can tell you my experience at Shine. I found Shine after I got sick of my high-priced hair salon downtown. I found them on CitySearch. Seth was my stylist and I loved him from the first moment he touched my hair. Yes, these people have inside jokes and yes they talk. So what? So, you were left alone while your hair was being done. Um, hellooo, if you need to make friends, go downtown to a bar, don't go to a salon. If you feel like you need company at a salon, please bring a friend next time. The salon was colorful to say the least. Everyone there had such comradarie. I have to say Seth was probably the quietest one, and that didn't bother me. I personally like to relax while I'm at a salon, not have my ear yakked off. Yes there was hair on the floor. NEWSFLASH: IT'S A SALON. If Tony cleaned off a chair, what is wrong with that? Would you rather sit on a dirty chair? Ok, I'll stop badmouthing comments and cut to the chase. I wanted my bangs pink and omigod.....MY HAIR WAS PINK. It was great, perfect, and straightened just the way I like it. I know what it's like to walk out of a salon and not be happy. My advice: If you aren't happy, open your mouth. Most reputable salons will fix it for free, even the next day. I haven't had to heed my own advice however because both times I've visited Shine I've had a wonderful experience with no complaints. I don't miss my hauty-tauty salon at all. These people are fun, eclectic, and crazy. If you are feeling left out of their conversations, just jump in. But it's best to eavesdrop in.....their nightlife stories are pretty effin funny. I will confinue to go to Shine and remain an avid Seth follower. I have referred two girlfriend and one guy friend in need to this salon, and they have all had wonderful experiences. Some need snootie stylists...I'm going to stick to these down-2-earth people. Love you guys!!!
Pros: Fun staff, good prices, happy atmosphere
Cons: Clean out that ashtray out back already!! HA HA!!!
