I grew up in South Texas, 5 minutes from the border, and my family is from Mexico. The past two years I have lived in Orlando and have been searching for decent Mexican food with no luck, until now (I have to say Orlando has the worst Mexican food I have had.) Today I ran into El Potro and decided to try it out. The fajitas were awesome. They tasted "meaty" and were seasoned just right. The rice and beens were flavorful and the guacamole was the correct texture. The salsa that they serve with the chips, is one of the best salsas I have had. I also had chicken and cheese enchiladas, which were decent. I will be visiting this restaurant from now on.

I am from NY and get tired of those who think the only good food is in NY! El Porto is great, the people are friendly and we have been there several times.
Pros: Like eating in a local place in Mexico
Cons: Can be a crowd at lunch time, but people like the place.

I have been to Mexican restaurants (around the world) and this one is worth trying and making visiting it into a regular habit. All of the staff is very friendly and there is never a way to be dissatisfied; they will make sure that you are happy with your order. Everyone my husband and I have taken there, really enjoys it. The prices are right and there is a great dinner and lunch buffet! This is a great place for celiac and vegetarians!!! They will replace any flour item they can with corn, just ASK!!! And this place has flavor- it's more like eating MEXICAN in TEXAS not like the south (like North FLA**) -for example, and if any of you are Mexican junkies; then you will know exactly what I am talking about. ** Except for an excellent Mexican Restaurant in Tallahassee called La Fiesta (they have flavor too)!!
Pros: Everything
Cons: Just make sure they understand your order ;)

We've been looking for a nice authentic restaurant for a while but still have not came across anything...we passed by a couple of times and a friend recommended that we try, so we decided to stop in and have a bite. The chips and salsa were so so..the salsa tasted straight out of the jar, a bit watery...the food was very americanized and the buffet food was bland. I've eaten at some seriously superb Mexican restaurants in NYC so I might be used to quality..call me snooty, but this just didn't impress me in the slightest...the highlight...great margueritas...good service...but other than that... i wouldn't recommend if you're used to good Mexican food
Pros: Prompt service..
Cons: So so food

Fresh food, homemade salsa verde, the best pulled pork in town - El Potro is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Orlando! The drinks are strong and good, the food is delicious and plentiful and the service is excellent and friendly. Everyone I have taken here has been very pleased and has returned on their own and taken their friends - definitely a high spot in the so-so Orlando Mexican restaurant scene.
Pros: good parking, cheap, plentiful food
Cons: noisy

When my wife & I first arrived were seated and brought chips and "salsa". Salsa is in quotes because Hunt's Tomato Sauce with some jalapenos for spicyness doesn't qualify as salsa. At that point we would have been better off to take the hint, cut our losses, and leave with a couple of sub-par margaritas and some chips and ketchup to pay for. Unfortunately, we stayed. We decided on the Quesio Fundito appetizer and were dissapointed with the small mound of sausage with Kraft American cheese melted around it and the puddle of brownish-reddish grease pooled on top. Unfortunately, again, we still stayed. At least El potro is consistant. Our entree's sucked too. Or maybe they didn't. I dont know, I couldn't exactly find my food in the gooey mass of melted cheese(Kraft white american again--Im sure of it!)that was piled on my plate. If you like mexican food,DONT GO.
Pros: cheap, hot food, cheap
Cons: horrible food, greasy, tasteless

First time at Mexican restaurant and it was great. Food had great flavor. Buffet might not really be worth it though. Next time I'll order a cheaper dish, which came with quite a bit of food.
Pros: lots of food, great flavor
Cons: buffet
