When I was there a few years ago, the pavilion throughout the day offered traditional, Japanese drumming performances, with some instruments towering in size over the musicians themselves. There was also a candy-making display, where artists crafted sugar into colorful, not mention edible, animal figurines. While there was no actual ride or movie at Japan, the shop containing clothing to toys and jewelry proved to be entertaining, particularly for anime fans. Plus, I think Yakitori Noodle House.is one of the better quick-stop eats at EPCOT. The teriyaki chicken and miso soup there was DELICIOUS, and dining in the secluded Japanese garden patio area made you feel miles away from the hustle and bustle of the theme park.
Pros: food, shopping, ambience, performances
Cons: no ride or movie
