My first time visiting I was using a Groupon for a facial and an wash and blow dry. Service was great but they were late taking me in.
The second time I wentl they were also late so I decided to wait on getting the high lights because they were so late. They did acknowledge and appolize and even gave me my hair cut for free but they charged me for a full color and highlights so I called a few days later and they gave me a credit to use for the highlights. I was a little hesitant to use them again so I waited almost a year to go back.
Well today I went for my 3rd time to Matthew Michaels and it was a 5 Star experience. I called and got an appointment 45 min later. I wish I could remember the stylist name she was very good I got the color and cut I wanted. I'm going back thursday for a manicure after talking to them about trying to grow my real nails out and not having artificial nails put on. I plan on getting manaicures everyother week for a while and see if I can get MY nails back in good shape. so we will see and I will let you know...
And I did not mind one bit tipping in cash I would rather especially when they do a good job..
Finally, a great place in Orlando!. I recently moved from L.A. and I've tried a few places for a cut and color, but they were just okay. I never felt like I got a really good cut and would have to spend a lot of time blow drying my hair for it to have any shape. I finally decided to try a place right around the corner because I generally like Aveda salons and I'm so glad I did! I booked an appointment with Josh, and although he was running a bit behind, I was really pleased with my hair. Josh spent a great deal of time with me and was very thorough and precise. Finally - a salon that compares to those I used in L.A.! The salon itself is beautiful, too.
You can pay by Credit Card ALMOST - TIPS HAVE TO BE CASH.
I am not sure what is going on with Matthew Michaels these days. First their staff is like a revolving door. You find one person to cut your hair and they leave and then the staff will not tell you where they went.
Then they use to be an Aveda Shop, and now they are not.
Now they will not accept gratuities/tips to be paid on credit cards. Only Cash ! I asked them why and they said their staff prefers cash.
I am sorry but I would I would prefer to be paid in cash from job also. The obvious reason for them to want cash for gratuities is because they DO NOT HAVE TO REPORT their cash gratuities and the credit card companies probably charge a slight fee on the gratuity which either the salon owner does not want to pay or the the staff does not wish to pay.
When I did not have cash on me to pay the gratuity, they told me I could go to Publix which is down the street and across Osceola Parkway and use the ATM machine there . HELLO has anyone every heard of inconvenience ? In addition, I do not know about anyone else, but I have to pay taxes on every DOLLAR I make at my job, so why should they not have to pay ?
As far as them ditching Aveda, I am sure it was because they could not make enough profit off the Aveda Products.
So rotating staff, inconvenience, and now loaded with fairly inexperienced hair stylists. I am sorry but I am going to go back to my old stylist downtown. I tried, I really did, for almost 2 years, and I am just flat out disappointed. They sure know how to drive their customers away.
Great Services/Rotating Staff. First, I have been going to Matthew Michael's for just about a year and I have never had a bad haircut or waxing. However, after finding a stylist that worked well for me, I have for the last six months had to reschedule with a different stylist for every appointment. The stylists are leaving and as a client that makes me wonder.

I met Amanda two months ago and she gave me her business card and said she would love to work on my hair. Her personality was intriguing and she was absolutely beautiful. I went in to have my hair cut by her a few weeks later because I really wanted to see her again. My haircut is a pretty standard male cut. Little did she know, I have cut my own hair...and only me, for the past five years. After she cut my hair, I never received so many compliments before at work EVER! I work in an atmosphere where people are very judgmental and notice everything about you from head to toe...my uniform is only black boxer briefs. Needless to say, I have referred her to several people, as I seem to be a walking advertisement with my job. She definitely found herself a lifetime client. She is genuine, talented, thorough, and must be a great asset to your team.

I went to this salon a few weeks back- I will never return again.
The young girl I had smelt of marijuana and had a horrible attitude. I believe her name was Amanda. I went in expecting a professional salon and to have a great experience, it was the opposite. My haircut turned out different than what I had explained. I'm will be sure to let all my friends and co-workers know to never go to horrible Matthew Michael's Salon, it was SUCH a let down!

I can personally tell you that I have been going to Matthew Michael's Salon since they opened at the Loop. I have never received anything but professional behavior and an excellent haircut. The people there are very friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous.
Gilbert has been my Stylist for almost two years now, and NEVER, NOT ONCE, have I had to wait longer than a few minutes for my appointment. He is extremely courteous, and gives an incredible hair cut. Even though I am a guy, I am extremely fussy about my haircut. I have been to some of the best salons in Orlando, Winterpark and Thornton Park and I have found no one who cuts my hair better than Gilbert. Gilbert provides consistently good hair cuts, that are current, and extremely precise. He cares that his clients are happy with the service he provides, as well as, he cares that you are actually happy with the hair style he gives.
While Matthew Michael's is an extremely well run and professional establishment, we all know that sometimes things do not go as planned. We can't always please everyone, every time, but we can strive to please everyone as humanly possible. In the end if an incident happens to me once, I have to shrug it off and say hopefully it will be better next time. If it happens more than once, then I would complain. TO trash undeservedly an establish that is one of the best hair salons in Orlando and one of their stylist's reputation for a one time incident, says more about the reviewer than the salon.
I am sorry, but the reason I go to Matthew Michaels is because of the service, their incredible hair styles, and because of knowledgeable and friendly stylists like Gilbert. Gilbert is one of the reasons I continue to go back to Matthew Michael's.
NEVER AGAIN!. Today I was the recipient of an early April Fool's Day present courtesy Matthew Michael's Salon @ The Loop. I just didn't know I was the guest of honor. Months ago I thought I had hit pay-dirt in finding a salon that would would provide the service I asked for, which is all that I ask when I get a haircut. How ironic it is that during my last appointment, 3 weeks ago, I signed up and paid for their frequent customer program, considering I'll never again frequent that establishment. Today I arrived on-time for my scheduled appointment with my fiancee, who had an appointment with her stylist conveniently scheduled for the same time. We were greeted by the receptionist and after a short wait my fiancee was greeted by her stylist. I was informed there would be a short wait for my stylist, Gilbert, but that it "wouldn't be long." 10 minutes later the receptionist was kind enough to ask if I wanted something to drink while I waited, a wait which she then said would be "less than 5 or 10 minutes more." When I had been waiting for 30 minutes I had decided I would only wait for my fiancee's cut and style to be completed and I would leave. At 5:00PM we finally left the salon, fully an hour past the time of my scheduled appointment. While the receptionist was kind enough to ask me if there was anything she could do the only reason I was at the salon, and had made a scheduled appointment 3 weeks in advance was for a haircut and highlights, not a social visit. At NO TIME, while I was waiting was my stylist courteous or professional enough to walk over and either apologize OR offer an explanation for the wait. 10-15 minutes I can understand, but my fiancee's services took an hour and I was still waiting. I don't care that Matthew Michael's is one of America's Top 200 salons...according to whom? What I care about is receiving the service for which I have made an appointment for. How ironic that they call to remind you of an appointment, and charge a fee if you are a no-show, yet when you're waiting AN HOUR past the time of your scheduled appointment your stylist does not have the decency to face-up to the error. Matthew Michael's lost two well-tipping customers today, and following a similar posting on Facebook, Twitter, and word of mouth, I only hope they lose more. What I experienced today was simply inexcusable
Best salon in town. I recommend this salon to all. I went and got my haircut by a lovely girl there named Amanda. She did an excellent job. I was a little apprehensive at first because she was younger looking than most stylists, but boy was i wrong. She cut and styled my hair better than it has ever been, and she knows what she's doing. I will be returning to matthew michaels for the rest of my haircuts, i wouldn't trust my hair in anyone else's hands. Thank you Amanda and Matthew Michaels for making me no longer worried about going to get a haircut.
Love my new hair. I have only been there twice so far, but on my first trip i went just to get an inch or two taken off the bottom of my hair and a young lady by the name of amanda cut my hair and did an amazing job. I went back to her to get some color done and get it shortened again, and she did such an amazing job, she blended the color so well everywhere i go i keep getting compliments, i mean EVERYWHERE! Ladies, i strongly suggest you go see Amanda she will work wonders with your hair. And thank you matthew michaels for an overall great experience.
