The Dolphins steal the show!.
Our family just spent the day at Sea World and overall we had a very good experience. Going in the off season (early September) was great and still beautiful weather. We have to admit (but not in front of the kids) that the Shamu show was disappointing. We saw the Dolphin show early in the day and it was AMAZING - a MUST SEE. Maybe the Shamu show was just disappointing by comparison but it seemed short and was not as spectacular. After the grand finale I was expecting more but the whales and trainers left the main stage area and the audience dispersed. Then, with about half the audience gone, the trainers and whales returned and performed a few more jumps and tricks. I was glad we lingered but my husband and I were looking quizzically at each other with the same thought, "is it over, or not?" It was still a great show, with awesome animals and trainers.
The "all day dining" was NOT worth it for our 3 adults and one child. The vendors are limited as are the items you can choose at those vendors. With planning your day in order to catch the shows you want to see, you don't need the extra chore of planning your food stops at specific places. Also, the select vendors will be busy at peak times and take up valuable time if you are trying to squeeze a lot in.
The "penguin encounter" was 5-STAR!!! We had a fabulous experience even while nearly getting hit by flying puffin poo : ) Well worth the extra cost.
