Editorial Review for The Golden Truffle – by Amanda Hawk
The Scene
Soft lighting, starched linens and an inventive menu set the stage for a special evening. An eclectic collection of art in the main dining room and a cheery, personable staff save the place from pretension, making everyone feel welcome.
The Food
An innovative menu encourages experimentation. Starters include lobster taquitos, sweetbreads with toast points and an array of salads. A special appetizer of mussels and clams served in an orange bouillabaisse is fantastic and highly recommended when available. For the main course, veal tenderloin in lemon-butter sauce arrives succulent and well-seasoned, though the evening's duck selection is on the dry side. Wine pairings are suggested for each item and you'll find the staff knowledgeable and helpful when making your selection. Desserts, for the most part, are only passable, with the exception of the delightful Meyer lemon tart.

Went on Valentines Day. After 30 minutes we were given a piece of bread and water. After another 30 minutes a manager asked if our order had been taken, we said no, so she wrote down the order. It was a 4 course prefixed menu for the holiday. The first course arrived after 20 minutes. Inbetween the 1 and second course the host came over and apoligized for the wait and said that he would comp off one of the per person charges. He then went outside, met a girl who was waiting and proceeded to make an obvious coke purchase. After he finished his coke he came back to check on us. The second course was a spicy shrimp lime soup. It had obviously been sitting around a while because it was bitter. It tasted like soap. We then received our 3rd course which was an over cooked salmon dish. The server finally came and asked if we would like anything else and we said well the 4th course (dessert) would be nice. She apoligized and went to make our desserts. I had ordered a coffee which she brought before the dessert. My girlfriend asked for a coffee as well but only if it was fresh. The server said she would go see how much coffee was left in the urn, if it was almost empty she would make more. She left my (old burned) coffee for me with cream and sugar but NO SPOON. She made a new batch of coffee and brought my girlfriend a fresh cup with our desserts. I asked if I could have some fresh coffee and a spoon. We got the check it it was not comped at all. I waited 20 minutes or so but no one came by so I subtracted the comp amount and left cash for the rest. 2 1/2 hours for dinner. RIDICULOUS. All this was after I called to complain about our previous visit. This was one of our favorite restaurants but we will never go back. They should be embarrassed. Visit at your own risk.
Pros: None horrible
Cons: everything horrible

The food was exceptional, I had the halibut with capers and it turned out fantastic. The halibut was perfectly cooked, and the grilled zucchini was uniquely wonderful. The service was a little slow but going to a restaurant like this you want to take your time.
Pros: great food and ambience
