Burgers and Drag.
I was visiting a friend in Orlando and we wanted to go to the "Dessert Lady", but she was closed on Sunday (L A M E), so starving I saw "Burger Mary's" and was all....BURGERS ARE GOOD. So we stopped in. And boy was I glad because the queens who run this joint love their meat - just like me.
After chatting with our hot, and of course totally gay waiter, I got the BBQ burger w/ sweet potato fries as well as an appetizer of the deep fried mac & cheese. Both were stellar. Be sure to ask for the BBQ sauce for the mac & cheese too. It comes with a yummy marinara, but the BBQ was great as well.
The burger was more than a mouthful- WAY more. As my jaw unhinged to take in the full breadth of the thing I was stunned and awed by the size. Then the juicy meat and sauce hit my tongue and my eyes rolled back in pleasure. I may have even moaned a little because I had found burger nirvana.
All in all the place was a hit for me. The food was great, the waiters asses were firm, and my meat was done just right.
A Fun place for a Hamburger. This place is fun to go to for a drink and a burger, the Drag shows on Tues with the Bingo is packed all the time, Ray Ray was a great server there you may want to ask for him he is on the ball with what you need.
Experience a retro-style diner with the '80s mixed in for good measure in downtown Orlando..
In Short
Sink your teeth into mouthwatering burgers with specialty names like Buffy the Hamburger Slayer at this kitschy restaurant and bar in the Church Street district. Be prepared to be served big hamburgers, which require a knife to cut it in half in order to enjoy each juicy bite. Other menu items include meatloaf, lasagna and seafood along with sexy drinks like Mary's Melons. The dining experience ends with checks delivered by servers in red pumps.
Gay man first, qualified restaurant employee last..
The premise is good. Hamburger's downtown. We like burgers and we are constantly passing through downtown.
Campy and chalk full of happy hours and events. The problem? Mediocre burgers and either a hateful gay man or an untrained gay man serving them.
On our first visit our server couldn't carry of tray full of drinks and dripped our margaritas across the table, no apology or additional napkin offered. The second visit was the 'hateful waiter' experience. When we ordered water, the waiter responded, "Sparkling, flat or from the sink?" From the sink? Are you kidding me? I wanted to see his manager that very instant, hoping to squelch the possibility of that being said to anyone else, in that restaurant again.
After our burgers arrived the waiter passed by and said, in drive-by fashion, to my husband, "How's your meat?" My husband nodded that it was fine. The waiter, turning the corner, added, "How's your burger?" Now, sexual innuendo can be fun and possibly expected, in a place like Wing House or Hamburger Mary's, if the rapport with the guest has been established. But with the "sink water" intro-- it hadn't.
Lastly, and let me just add, I am seated with my husband, we are wearing the proper rings and we are responding to each other like we are happily together. My husband puts his credit card in the stiletto and the waiter returns the card with, "Thank you Richard, and friend." Is it his place to let us know that he thinks my husband might be better off leaving with him? That is a very hateful approach to building repeat business both gay and straight. HM's could quite possibly pull it off in a 'gay district' but not in downtown Orlando. All the sloppiness makes me wonder about the quality of the meat grinding in the kitchen (or not) the attention to detail and the overall care for the guest behind the scenes.
