User Reviews for Mandara Spa at Portofino Bay Hotel

HI! We just went to the Portofino for our honeymoon last weekend. Check out my review of that place, it was great. The Mandara Spa is on the Portofino premises, but is not afilliated with the resort. It was most apparant. The people were nice, but the actual spa was cold, and lacking in any real design element or decor. It was all around shabby in my opinion. I have been to less expensive spas that have more to offer than this place. My new husband and I looked forward to going in the co-ed whirlpool together. This was out of order. So we said we would sit in the steam room in our respective male/female lounges while we waited...the women's steam bath was out of order. The sauna was working...so they had one out of three major amenities advertised. The robes were thin, cheap, and stained. The hard plastic sandals given to me had a slight tear, that cut into my foot, and made a horrible wet squishy noise when I walked. Yuck! I went to pour myself some tea...the kettle was empty. There was trash on the sink, and unflushed toilets. I was very suprised with this lack of quality control, as it would have taken 30 seconds for a seasoned professional to walk through the lounge and prep area to make sure everything was in order for a new customer. Sub-par all around. When we made reservations, they should have told us the whirlpool/steambath was out. It is not cozy or relaxing. Think high school locker room/shower/bathroom with a few crappy "touch ups". We were vastly disappointed. We are shocked a place like the Portofino would have such a low rent "luxury" spa connected with their amazing resort. WE LEFT BEFORE WE GOT OUR MASSAGES. Felt bad, but we are newly weds and can't afford subpar service when we live in NYC and can go to an amazing, detail oriented spa for the same price. That's right, BETTER IN NYC for the SAME PRICE. Don't expect much here! Hope this helps!
Pros: There are NONE
Cons: Bad Atmosphere, Worse Value

I would like to talk about the cleaning , the good smell, of Mandara Spa. I never experienced a Spa like this. I spent few hours over there on August, and I was very happy and comfortable. Everything was so nice, neat and cleaned. Thanks Alexe
