Unpleasant

I've been practicing for about 5 years and was an everyday student at a number of studios around the country and in Orlando. The nonsense started almost immediately with the forms and the haughtiness at check-in. It continued with pontification during class meant to remind clients that their pampered lives were occurring against a backdrop of world suffering. There is little correction or demonstration, just a bunch of blather about how we could drop "your frustration because you didn't have enough foam on your latte". (I started laughing out loud at that point.) When the class was over, they have a receiving line where you have to go past the teachers and engage in mutual appreciation, not completely unusual, but the effusiveness of the two owners made my skin crawl. Not a great place to learn and way too much attitude for what they do.

Lies & Bad Business

On Oct 22, 2011, College Park Yoga had a Vampire Yoga class. My friend had purchased tickets for myself and her to go for my birthday, however I was too sick to go anywhere. We called them to let them know, so that it would open the space up for others to go and was told by Teresa, the owner that she appreciated me calling because she did have others that wanted to do the class. I didn't even think to ask about a refund. I recently have felt much better and thought to email about the refund or class credit. I was informed that there are no refunds or credits no matter what the circumstance and that someone else used our tickets. I wrote back asking if they resold the tickets or just gave away the tickets that we paid for. Teresa said that as with all "events" if you purchase a ticket and can't go you have to take it as a loss. She said this works with movie tickets, plays, even basketball games. However, movie theaters do refund your money and play and basketball tickets are resold so that makes no sense to me. And just because it was "vampire yoga" does not make it an event comparable to a basketball game etc., it is still a yoga CLASS. She also told me that she and Calvin are the mere directors of the studio and were not authorized to make transactions such as refunds but on sunbiz they are listed as the only two registered agents. If she lied to me once, I have no doubt that she lied about not reselling the tickets and made $50/ticket off of us that evening.
As a business owner myself, I would never treat a customer this way.

a yoga studio that actually teaches yoga

Discovered college park yoga on my way home from work one day, and never turned back. A great yoga studio with good people.
The classes are the perfect balance of sweat, challenge and stress relief. The teachers are all very helpful and accommodating, all of them speak clear and give helpful instruction. They offer words of wisdom that is far beyond the scope and range of other places i have been. If you are seeking out a place to actually learn what yoga is this is your yoga space.
