In Short – Designed in the vein of a southern mansion, the resort boasts 1,406 guest rooms, 106 suites and 400,000 square feet of convention space - all in a smoke-free environment. The resort's focal point is a scaling glass atrium portraying various Florida locales like Key West and the Everglades. Guests may dine at the Caribbean-inspired Sunset Sam's Fish Camp, the rustic Old Hickory Steakhouse, the luxe Villa de Flora or the trendy H20 Sports Bar and Grille.
Editor's Tips
- When to Go:
- There's no better time than Christmastime when the resort carves 2 million pounds of ice into a winter wonderland.
- The Extras:
- Drop the kids at La Petite Academy Kids Station, where they'll be treated to a customized play date.
Hidden fees are a pain

Went in Jan of 2010.
I have come to the conclusion that the more upscale a resort is, the more they like to nickel and dime you to death.
Came into the airport and took the shuttle (which on their web site does not say that you have to pay for it) to the resort.
Got a car at the Budget in Oldtown Kissimmee (a good friend explained the difference in renting at the airport: lots of taxes and fees for the tourist; and renting not at the airport. The Budget people came and picked me up at the hotel, and had the paper work completed in no time. Even with the $20 shuttle (which I thought was free), I saved money not renting at the airport. The number for Budget in Oldtown is 407-396-0928 and is very close to the Gaylord.
Charged for parking each and every day, and the signage on where to park was nonexistant. Then there was an additional "resort fee" which was supposed to include internet, fitness center and 2 bottles of water a day. Between the two fees, it added approx. $30 a day to the bill (even more if you use the valet parking, which I think they want you to do, therefore the no signage to assist you to the parking areas). Then you have to include the hotel taxes that are in the area ("tourist should pay my taxes, not me"), which are not cheap. Just be prepared to pay a lot more than the price quoted.
The restaurants had great food and good service, but were all pricey.
We had an atrium room in the Everglades section and had no problems with noise, but people we knew who had rooms in the Key West section complained of noise that kept them awake at night.
The ambiance is wonderful, and I had no complaints about the cleanliness of the rooms, or the staff, but just be prepared to pay through the nose.
I used the fitness center and the music was sooooooo.... loud that you couldn't hear yourself think. When I could find someone to turn down the music, they did so grudgeingly and really didn't turn it down enough (when you can't hear the news on the TV with earbuds because the music is blaring, the music is too loud).
The atrium is great, but not sure this place is worth the price.
- Pros: Nice atmosphere and great staff
- Cons: Be prepared to be nickeled and dimed
Fun little Christmas getaway here in town

We did the weekend getaway at Christmas Time with our kids and got the package which included Ice, Gingerbread House Making, and lots of other fun things to do.... we enjoyed the food, the music and all of it except the little things that they nickle and dime you on are silly ..... Considering as much as we spent, an extra empty styrofoam cup shouldnt cost us 1.25, for example.
Otherwise, it was fantastic!!
- Pros: fun things to do
- Cons: EVERYTHING COSTS...EVERY LITTLE THING!
Poor overall service

I was on a business trip with important clients so naturally we went to the "nicest" hotel the area could offer. The hotel is beautiful and unique, but service was worse than imagined. Forget calling for the front desk or business center to bring you something because over the course of two days they never delivered a package to the room- instead they misplaced it and took almost 45 minutes to find it (after I had to personally walk to both the front desk and business center to retrieve it). After checking out on the last day the bell service took over an hour to come to the room after numerous calls and then the hotel forgot to load the baggage into the back of the car and we were unaware until we reached our next destination and missed our flight in order to get it back. I understand that the size of the hotel is like running a small city, but the staff need to follow through with their communication and make sure actions like loading luggage are complete. Hopefully the service will improve because the hotel itself is beautiful.
- Pros: You don't even have to leave the hotel if it's raining outside-atrium hotel with amazing interior
- Cons: Service, hotel communication & follow-thru, don't expect to be in a hurry here

This is one of our favorite get away locations! Birthdays, anniversaries or special brunch occasions are all good excuses to go to Gaylord Palms. If you enjoy incredible landscapes (indoor and out), waterfalls, great food and drink and a variety of resort environments in one - go to Gaylord Palms! The staff will take care of everything you ask and then go beyond your expectations everytime.
- Pros: Views, restaurants, service, mood
