Excellent Po'Boy Sandwich , Friendly Staff, and Prompt Service!
by luv2bake at Citysearch
i recenlty went to athens cafe and had a wonderful experience! i had been there once before about a year and a half ago, and while that experience wasn't "bad" it wasn't great. one of my friends had notified me that athens was under new ownership, and that they had made some changes. i went for lunch and got their shrimp po'boy (decided to try something NOT greek) must say, for being a "Greek/American" restaurant, the shrimp po'boy was excellent! My server was very friendly and eager to talk about the new changes they have made and continue to make. She told me that the new owners were approaching their one year anniversary. Hats off to the new owners! You seem to be doing an excellent job! I will be back for more shrimp po'boy!
- Pros: prompt service, cleanliness
- Cons: took cuban sandwich off menu! (sad face!)
New owners taking it to new level!!

I have been eating at this restaurant for years, and it is better then ever. The food is wonderful, the service is attentive and polite, and the prices are just right. The hummus is the best around, no other hummus even compares. I love the Combination Delight dinner. It is perfect because I get to try alittle of everything. My husband loves the Pork Tenderloin, which is in a mushroom, wine sauce. The smell is so wonderful I always have to steal a bite. Just as good as it smelles! They also offer a great take out business, and Sunday Brunch. The Sunday Brunch has any and everything you could possibly imagine, from homemade gravy and biscuits to omlettes made to order. The new owners have really turned this restaurant around! They made it a neighborhood favorite again!!
- Pros: Polite Service, Timely Food, Prices
- Cons: Parking
Excceptional Greek Food in a Family Friendly Environment

If you are looking for some great Greek food you have to try Athens Greek Cafe. This was our third experience and we keep coming back for more. The hummus is light and flavorful (not heavy like some) and was served with warm pita points, tomatoes, lettuce, onion and lemon making it a very colorful presentation. The weekend specials are fantastic and the flavors really pop with the fresh vegetables, seafood, and lamb and other traditional favorites. The rotisserie chicken was exceptional, succulent and juicy. The soups and sauces taste homemade and portions are generous. Could go on and on about great flavors and presentations
It turns out that the new management of almost a year now is a family affair with lots of combined experience which adds a nice touch when the owners are right there everyday. This is a restaurant that is coming into its own as dishes are consistently produced for in house diners and take out orders. Service was attentive but a bit casual which is fine if you don't have too critical an eye. We'll keep coming back until we try everything then we'll start over again with all our favorites - good job! We found more information at www.athensgreekcafe
Bad Attitude from Management

I have eaten in Athens Cafe since it was opened and found the food to be very good. We have always have good service as well. Athens is now serving breakfast and about 1 month ago we tried it for breakfast and it also did a good job for breakfast, which is why I am so taken back for the treatment we received on Thur. 8-31-06. I ordered the same greek omelet that I had the time before, which I liked very much. So on this visit when my omelet came and I took a bite I knew immediately that something was wrong. I knew that the meat did not taste right. I immediately got the server and told her the problem. Well, she takes it back to the kitchen and then comes the chef (and could be owner). He asked me what the problem was and I told him that the meat wasn't right. He very rudely answered it was the taste of the feta cheese. I told him no, it was the meat. Well, with that he picked up my plate and took it over the dirty dish bens and threw my plate in the ben. He never asked what I would like in place of my order. Now, there are 3 other people with me and their food is fine. The server came by and asked if everything was o.k. and I said, no. I didn't have anything to eat. She asked what I wanted so I told her I would have what my husband was having, which was eggs, potatoes & biscut. A few minutes later the same chef came out and almost threw the plate on the table with only 2 eggs. I asked where the rest of the food was and he said I didn't ask for that. I don't know if it is policy to treat people in this manner when there is a problem wiht the food but it is the first time I have ever been treated this way in a restaurant when there was a problem with the food. I would not recommend this restaurant on this alone. As I stated earlier, I have been going there for a long time and this was a first and last for me. I know what spoiled meat taste like. No adjustment either just a very bad attitude.
- Cons: Management has hostel attitude toward customer if something is wrong.
