A very good meal but bring cash instead of credit card.
The Silver Lining Cafe is a quaint little restaurant tucked away in downtown St. Cloud and run by - I assume - local owners. They prepare and serve the food themselves. The decor is very charming and antiquish with non-matching silverware, dinnerware and furniture which creates an asthetically interesting, eclectic and pleasing environment. The owners are friendly, the wife moreso than the husband who hardly said a word to us. But the wife made up for it by making lively conversation while we decided what to order.
The major con of the Silver Lining Cafe is that they only accept cash as payment (understandably so with bank charges being so high). However, this policy may have changed since our last visit a year ago. Furthermore, we saw no sign or notice in the menu that they accept "cash only," so we were ill prepared, and I had to make my way to the closest ATM and withdraw money and pay two transactions fees since it wasn't my bank.
The price is reasonable for a good home-cooked meal, and the portions are plenty. You shouldn't walk away hungry. For two meals, we paid roughly $25, not including tip or dessert. Waiting time for our meal was somewhat lengthy, though - 30-45 minutes.
In summation, I whole-heartedly recommend the Silver Lining Cafe and rate it 3.5 stars out of 5. Just make sure that you bring cash!
AT HOME FEELING,VERY FRIENDLY PLACE.
THE OWNER CAME OVER TO OUR TABLE TO ASK HOW EVERYTHING WAS. THE FOOD WAS VERY GOOD.
IT WASN'T CROWDED ON THE DAY WE VISITED AND WE ARE GOING BACK NEXT FRIDAY. IT WAS SOMETHING DIFFERENT. QUITE ENJOYABLE.
Not That Great, Sad for "Mom & Pop", Could've Been Great.. Not a great experience. During the lunch rush, the owners, whom I might add are the only two employees, were doing everything except paying attention to customers. The gentleman was talking on the phone to a friend while a line of people gathered at the register. The lady stopped cooking (like I said, the only cook) to talk to someone wanting to sell her a security system. This was all at 12:30 in the middle of the lunch hour. They say they threw the conventional restaurant way of doing things out the window, that includes the customer service that goes along with it. Don't bother unless you have lots of time and want to eat whatever someone else wants to cook you, because they also don't have a set menu, they will give you a "menu", but don't expect everything that is on it to be available.
