Editorial Review for Jason's Ristorante – by Sylvia Whitman

The Scene
A family-Sunday-dinner sort of restaurant in a strip mall with decor suggestive of vineyards and the Medicis. Flanking the main room are two wings: an open kitchen and an aisle with more booths and tables.

The Food
Italian with other Mediterranean borrowings. The menu covers all bases: creative appetizers, dressy pizzas, pastas with a choice of standard sauces, chicken/veal dishes, and specialties of the house, which include penne with eggplant and prosciutto in vodka cream and chicken cacciatore. The grilled polenta appetizer, topped with wild mushrooms in a creamy herb sauce and festooned with red cabbage confetti. That and the fluffy house foccacia--drizzled with oil, dusted with cheese, and decked out with a ground-olive tapenade--make a heavenly match. Love leafy greens? Try the unusual fettucine dela grosso, with spinach and escarole in a broth enriched by caramelized garlic and pecorino cheese.

This restaurant closed long ago - does have nice replacement located in the space. Be sure to check out Trattoria.

Jason's..I wish I could say something good about this place. Ok, the wedding soup was not bad. However, the alfredo is an insult to it's inventor, "Alfredo" and the cheese sticks were lukewarm and previously frozen. The shrimp in the fra diablo was overdone and seemed to be reheated. The bread was spread with some kind of margarine. It was just SAD.

Pros: Service, Atmosphere, Wedding Soup

Cons: Alfredo, Bread, Shrimp
