GROSS! The Blue Max is a dive bar in
the center of the seedy tourist trap known as Old Town on Rt 192. Old Town slowly declines year after year, and Blue Max is a good example of that. This place can't decide if its a British pub, a sport bar, or just a run-down bar and grill. The main draw seems to be the nightly karaoke in the main bar area.
I just went for a beer, and the main impression I got was how dirty it was. The bar is covered with a sticky layer of grime you can scrape off. My beer had brown filth floating on it from the dirty tap. There was food available, but I wouldn't suggest eating it. There was a popcorn machine near the bar, but it must be for show, I wasn't offered any.
Prices for draft beer were high, from $4.75 to over $6.00. The staff seemed mostly disinterested. There was one friendly bartender, but another guy covered in tats and camo kept spitting into the garbage pail. With so many other better bars in the area, there's no reason to go here.
HEY, ya got to stop into the Blue Max
Tavern in Old Town Kissimmee,Fl. next time your in Disney area. this is a restaurant & kind of English pub atmosphere, with an actual WW I single seat bi-plane hanging from the ceiling. there is a lot to look at on the walls while there and also Karaoke in the evening till closing.
But the real gem here is the Italian Bartender that works weekdays and Lately according to him on Sundays. He is formerly from Brooklyn, N.Y. but has not lost that distinctive accent. Phil, as he likes to be called, has a knack for making you feel special while visiting. He not only will serve cocktails but tell you jokes while your visiting the Tavern.
Unlike other watering holes we have visited where they only conversation is "what do you want to drink" , Phil the "Italian Bartender" makes you laugh, makes food suggestions, serves food, and all whit a special attitude and smile that most servers lack these days.
If you enjoy Karaoke, they start at 8pm till 2am however,,
the night time staff are a little weird! They are not as friendly, the females have their boobs hanging out, and their is a scary Para-military guy running around with American flags cursing and screaming at customers from England for starters!!!! ~~REALLY??
Are the owners unaware of this tribal behavior, drunken staff, and a drug induced Jack Sparrow using profanities on perspective repeat business. All that aside if you can get past that, the DJ is moody bbut the songs are plentiful.
Stop by and see PHIL the Italian Bartender from Brooklyn and he will suggest lunch items, Caribbean cocktails and outright provide a memorable afternoon ~~~~~~~~ 5 stars daytime\ 1 finger at night!!!
BROOKLYN IN OLD TOWN.
I am so sorry for the Guy from Idaho!!!!
First of all he came in on a tues a year ago.
Recently the owners have revamped the staff and created an atmosphere that lures vacationers.
I am leaving this review because I have frequented the BLUE MAX TAVERN in old town for about 1 month now.
There is a Bartender from Brooklyn who works there that is a breathe of fresh air. His ability to interact with customers is awesome. I have lived in Orlando area for years but Phil will make you remember things you forgot about N.Y.
I was there with Phil working and when he was not working and I will tell you Phil will entertain you and not just pour drinks like the others who work there.
All in All i will say that if you enjoy a seasoned Bartender with a New York accent, with the ability to make you laugh,,call ahead and make sure Phil the Brooklyn Bartender is working
"Not you regular corner bar" HaHa!. I was there on Sunday night 7/31/11 at 9pm. My buddy and I walked in, and there were 2 other guys sitting at the bar. The only other people in the place were the bartender and the karaoke guy (who was setting up). Two draft beers of Miller lite --$10. I thought it was a mistake, so I questioned the bartender. His reply, "this isn't your regular corner bar in Orlando". It took all I could muster NOT to laugh in this guys face. He was wearing a wife beater shirt and cut off jeans. Real classy place!!! Anyway, I've been to dive bars and I've been to upscale places, NEVER before was I charged $5 for a draft beer! Get off your high horse Blue Max!! You are a dive bar in a low end location!!!
