Editorial Review for Disney's Port Orleans Resort--French Quarter – by Daniel Fuller

The Scene
Seven three-story buildings make up this Creole "village" where everything is straight out of the Big Easy. The 1,008-room riverside resort is located near Downtown Disney and easily accessible from the other theme parks. Shops, restaurants and recreational facilities are all adjacent to the resort.

The Details
Most rooms are equipped with double beds, though king-size beds are also available. The Doubloon Lagoon--an oversized pool complete with an enormous sea serpent slide that the little ones will love--features a poolside lounge, plus Mardi Gras characters to entertain the kids. Dining facilities include the Cajun-style Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory.

Having stayed last year at the enjoyable Polynesian Resort I expected a step down at the French Quarter. Was I wrong! Extremely quiet, well-furnished rooms have outside entrances that make they even more quiet. We never heard our next door neighbors (as at the Polynesian). Grounds were well-kept and our room had a view of the river and a nice courtyard. Rooms near the well-furnished pool with requisite slide are no doubt louder, but the mossy trees and long cobbled paths want you to talk in hushed whipsers. Make sure to try your luck fishing at the Fishing Hole at the Riverside at Port Orleans. The only real downside to the resort is you are limited to taking buses to the parks.

My wife and I went to Disney's Port Orleans, French Quarter on our honeymoon, and we were very impressed! We stayed 8/18/2002 - 8/24/2002, and were so pleased with our choice. Our first floor corner room overlooked the river, and was very romantic. The way the resort is arranged, is like a neighborhood with quaint streets (Rue d' baga), and is very quiet. We had a family next door with some young boys, and we never heard them. This is a serious bonus....remember, I was on my honeymoon. ;-) The Cast Members were terrific, and when they found out we were on our honeymoon, it was even better. The Staff will go out of there way to ask how your day was, make suggestions to add to your itinerary, or take your picture. Honestly, we didn't want to leave. No hype, it really is magical!

Pros: Great staff, Great layout, Romance ++++

Cons: NONE, NONE, NONE
