Not What it Used to Be

Having lived on the east side of town for over 10 years I have eaten at Jade Garden many many times. Eat in, take out, department lunches, you name it. I always considered it to be a bit pricey, but worth it for the quality of the food. Since my husband lost his job eating out is not something that happens that frequently anymore, so it's been a good year since I've eaten there. Today I was in that shopping center and decided to order soemthing to take back to work. The woman who took care of me was very nice, and the combination meal was certainly well priced. I got back to work and tore in. To my disappointment, the won ton soup was an almost clear broth with 3 hard knots and a few strips of scallion. Tasteless. Went in the garbage. My all time vegetarian favorite, Buddha Delight..was just as tasteless. I have eaten this so many times, it is supposed to be all different veggies and blocks of tofu in a garlicky delicious white sauce. What I got was steamed and bland broccoli, a few pieces of bamboo shoot and teeny mushroom bits. A few peices of firm but bland tofu. No baby corn, no water chestnuts..no flavor. The watery sauce in the bottom of the tray couldn't even be helped with soy sauce. The eggroll did have flavor. Unfortunatley it was the flavor of "old" grease. The bag of noodles tasted exactly like the egg roll. Greasy and old. Very disappointing. I will not be going back.
Decent Food/Decent Service

i wouldnt call myself a chinese food connoisseur or anything, but it was pretty decent for a pretty run down place in a college town. i mean, it wasnt trashy or anything type run down, just dead and no atmosohere. but for a ucf chinese restaurant, probably where mostly students order, it was quite enjoyable. i found what i wanted before i even got there by using a website called www.hungryknights. com. they got a lot of cool features that are helpful. you should use it!
Great food & service for the price!

The server was friendly and polite. The wonton soup was very light and fresh and the egg drop soup was delish. The shrimp fried rice actually had shrimp, and large ones at that. The chicken with vegetables taste fresh and well-cooked. It was not too salty and it did not have too much vegetables to overcompensate for the lack of meat.
Franc gives it 3 "yummies" out of 5. I gave the food rating a recommended and not highly recommended because I think they used some sort of butter and I'm lactose intolerant...And chinese food does not usually contain butter.
- Pros: cheap, good service, down-to-earth
