Editorial Review for Vito's Chop House – by Sylvia Whitman
The Scene
Steakhouse plush--brick walls, amber lighting, paper over linen, Sinatra et al. in stereo. A couple of booths have fun views through glass, either of rippling tropical fish or sweating kitchen cooks.
The Food
Paul Bunyan portions of aged steaks and fresh fish. The oak and orange wood fire gives grilled items a flavorful scorch, and chops and steaks come with an olive-adorned house salad. Fish lovers have a choice of pastas or dolphin, tuna, etc., straight up. Order the frito misto. Garlic mayonnaise and fried capers accompany this generous platter of delicately fried mussels, squid, scallops, shrimp and fish trimmings. Though billed as a group appetizer, it can double as an entree. A tasty steak like the 24-ounce prime rib-eye can feed two, but Vito's threatens a $5 sharing charge. Skip the jumbo asparagus, with stalks as tough as toothbrushes. The oversize desserts prove you can get too much of a good thing.

Insider Tips
Light Up!A $6,000 ceiling filtration system in the back dining room keeps cigar and pipe smokers from poisoning the whole house.
Vito's VinoVito's stocks more than 900 varieties of wine and makes the point visually by lining up bottles and boxes atop section dividers.
Continuing Wine Ed.Instead of employing a steward, Vito's offers weekly classes to all its servers. They may not know how to place a coffee service, but they can make suggestions about food-wine pairings.
Butter UpVito's weak link is its indifferent presentation on the plate. You also butter your warm bread with a steak knife.

Ate here last week. Very inconsistent, hence 3 stars. Our waiter was a fun, nice, professional guy, but we rarely saw him..service is slow and it takes forever to get plates cleared. The food is very good. The filet was great, and not charred on the outside (don't know what the other reviewers are talking about). The starters are okay at best and the wine list is good, but I think that this place spends too much time trying to get you to upgrade. The real stars are the sides. They were awesome! The mashed potatoes and mushrooms were great. The bread they bring at the beginning is warm, crispy and fantastic. Not the best, but not the worst. Not too expensive but there are other places that are better.
Pros: Side dishes, cool cigar club atmosphere, the bread
Cons: Inconsistent service, bland starters

Having looked around all of Orlando for a place to eat a nice dinner, we decided upon Vito's and we were so happy we did. We started with the Lobster Bisque and the Tomato & Bufalo Mozzarella salad. Both were exceptional. These were sizable servings, so we decided to share the 24 oz Ribeye for our entree, which was a good idea. We still had leftovers even after sharing. The preparation and seasoning of the ribeye made it one of the best we both had ever had. We ordered a bottle of wine from one of our FAVORITE vineyards and we were so pleased they had it in inventory (Girard Cabernet Franc). We were told they had an inventory of 1400 bottles. The Somelier was very educated and we had a wonderful discussion of some vineyards, which was great. The server was a bit new and he could have done a better job (hence the 4 out of 5 stars). But overall, a great meal and we will definitely go back. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in town.
