I was a "customer" there for over 8 months, and what looks good on the outside doesn't mesh with the inside. The place is headed by a woman far more concerned with dominance than with helping people, and alot of the staff reflect this. Most staff, by the way, have little qualification to be in a place such as that. They do actually have a woman with actual qualifications in social work, however. But the case managers and their assistants do not and pretty much are a joke. Let me give you an example of how "customers" are helped nowadays. Most people who come there have no money, no job, and no home. Especially in this economy and also due to location jobs are truly tough to come by, and most take a couple of months to acquire one. A rent is charged ( one must always put 'program fees' and not 'rent' on money orders which is the only payment method allowed ) of $100 per week. This means that a person is at least $1000 in debt as they start working, and most of the jobs gotten are part time and minimum wage or close to it. The "director" has dictated that %70 of all income be given over to WDC to take care of current rent and past rent. Bus passes, medications, basic needs must be paid for by the customer. They require you to save which most can't. Unless one is resourceful, when in WDC you are stuck in a lousy cycle and not getting anywhere. Certainly not up. Employment help is basically non-existant for people. Help is available which the customer knows nothing about, and unless you are liked you'll never know. To make the place what it was intended to be ( not a personal fiefdom of the director ) just about all of the staff must go and a fresh beginning made. This includes the director. If one complains there that person is smeared and forced out. It is a game. And it is sad.
