Orlando >Barnett, James D, Dvm - Lake Underhill Animal Hospital
The best vet in Orlando!. People are upset about silly things like waiting time or staff having a bad day. Grow up and get over those things! Stop stumping your feet like little baby! I only had the best experience at this pace. I don't usually write reviews but this place deserve it. They have done so much for our animals. We have 3 cats and 2 dogs. Just to go back to the waiting time.I use to go to the different vet that I had an appoitment and waited 30 minutes more every time to just go into the room and then another 30 minutes to see the vet. Never at this place! They must have had bad day when the previous reviewer had to wait. But wait is not that important to me. It is important how they take care of my animals and I have to say the vet lady is an amazing human being that really cares about animals. My dog is always so scared of vets and she is so gentle to him and makes him feel less stressed out. You can really tell she truly loves animals. Never had that feeling with my other 2 exvets. James Barnett is also excellent vet. My 13 year old dog Maggie has bone cancer in one of her back legs and she can't use it at all. She also had an accident recently and her other good back leg was insured to the point she needed surgery. She had pin placed in her hip to hold the hip in the place. We though we would have to put her down since she is so old with cancer and arthritis in her legs. But Dr Barnett said he can help her so we trusted him. It took at least 2 weeks of recovery but my 13 year old dog is using the leg today like nothing ever happened and for that we can't say enough thank you to Dr Barnett. Maggie will be with us for a few more months. She is as happy as she can be. So if you still don't know if you can trust this place I am telling you will not find better vets in the town!
GREAT SURGEON. Dr Barnett is a GREAT surgeon and great vet. When my roommates dog was sick near death from eating something toxic, Dr Barnett took great care of Mojo and studied and researched all options to save this dog ( who is like our child) Mojo was in the hospital for almost a week on IV's and different medicines. Dr. Barnett even came in on the weekend when they were closed to check on our dog. It took many days but Mojo did get better and now is a very healthy boy. Thank you Dr Barnett
Definitely a NO for exotic pets.. I took my ferret to this place - bad, bad idea, insane waste of money. The only thing I'd ever get done here is routine vaccinations for dogs & cats. I brought my poor little ferret in, and after 5 minutes of googling his symptoms at home I thought he had adrenal disease - he had CLASSIC symptoms. This vet was just like "oh, well, he doesn't seem muscle wasted, here's some appetite stimulant." I didn't even bother correcting him and immediately found out if my dad's old vet took ferrets, because he didn't even mention adrenal disease. My old/new vet (Dr. Bacia of powers drive animal hospital) took one look at him and started him on treatment for adrenal disease, which turned out to be correct. If I'd kept going here, I would have spent 300+ on bloodwork for my ferret, when any remotely ferret knowledgeable doctor would have recognized his illness fairly quickly. I do not take kindly to vets who pretend they know what they are doing at the cost of the animals' safety and wellbeing. Don't give this guy your money.
Bad First Impression. I had chosen to take my new dog to this animal hospital because I have lived in the area for 20 years and they have always been a part of the conway area community, I made my appointment for 11:00 am and was there at 10:55, there were 4 people in the waiting room with there animals and I saw there was going to be a slight wait, I had brought my dog a toy and some treats to keep him busy for the wait, 10 minutes past, then 20 then 30 then 40 then 50 minutes, the people that were there before me had already been taken back but none had come back out yet, 2 more people arrived 30 minutes after me and they were taken back I sat there in the room now with one other person who just showed up for probally a 12;00 appointment, also, there was one lady on there staff who was answering the phone ( long blonde/brown hair)that day that seemed very angry at anybody who called, in, picking up the phone with a attitide and then acting like it was a huge inconvience that anybody was calling, after a hour not one person came to me and said sorry about the wait or you are next or sorry we had a emergency they just let me sit so i got my dog and walked out and will never go back. Mabe they are a great vet for OPD because that is where the bulk of there business comes from, they are definitely not for me
They push you in and out in less than 7 minutes....
I recently moved into the Orlando area and was in need a new vet to take my dog to. My dog developed a small skin irritation/lesion on her chest and I decided it was time to have somebody take a look. I called around to a few other places and most, couldn't get seen the same day.
I chose Lake Underhill because I figured since they see the Orange County PD canine unit, it must have been a good place to have my own dog seen. When I arrived for my appointment, I was greeted, told them why I was there, and given paperwork. My appointment was at 1:30 and I was called back around 1:45pm.
The technician who took me back brought me into a room, asked me why I thought it was "ringworm" and I explained that I had done some basic searching around on the Internet and found several photos/descriptions. She immediatley became defensive and told me that it could be other things. But right when I turned my dog over, she looked at it for about 5 seconds max, and said, "Ok, the doctor will be with you shortly." I waited for the doctor for less than five minutes, which I was pleased with. He came in, picked up my dog and looked at her lesion and said, it's probably ringworm but he doesn't know for sure. In the less than 3 minutes of the examination, he gave her a anti-biotic and spray and was out the door. A minute later, the nurse came in and handed me the Rx and said I was good to go.
That was it. It cost me $42.95 plus medicine to spend less than 4 minutes with my dog to tell me that they THINK its ringworm but not sure. Really? That was it? They handled my dog like she wasn't a living, breathing animal but more like a stuffed animal. They just don't care about you or care to get to know your animal.
To be honest, I really don't care if they work with the Orange County PD canine unit or not. They pushed me in and out in less than 7 minutes. I felt like I was in a meat factory - just get them in and out. Needless to say I will be finding another vet that is more personable and who actually cares for animals and not just collecting their fees.
Dr. Kelley Cole really cares about your pet. She is an expert when it comes to dog breeding. Underhill Animal Hospital has been in business for almost 50 years. They are the experts when it comes to German Shepherds. It is the only place in Florida, I would consider taking mine. I have been a client for over 14 years. They are also the Vet hospital for Orange County Sheriff, Orlando Police Department and Homeland Security. They have a breeding program that uses German Shepherds from Germany and Holland. Many of these dogs are being used by Homeland Security and our police departments. They have long hours that makes dropping off and picking up easy, a pharmacy for pet medications and you don't need an appointment if you are having a sudden problem. They do have appointments which I would do if I were going for a routine visit because even though walking in is acceptable, the appointments do take priorty over walkins which are taken in order between appointments. If you have a serious Emergency like I did (pet/car accident) they rush you right in for treatment just like the Human Emergency Room. Non-emergency walkins may experience a wait but is rarely more than 2 hours. The quality of the care and service is worth waiting for especially at the reasonable prices. They also have an Emergency Clinic Service that operates after the regular hospital closes. It's good to know that you have vet access 24/7 in case of a pet emergency. Often lab test results are available the same day. They also have the means to board your large dog when you away. They sell Heartgard and Advantage at lower prices than some internet sites. Overall the business has a good community feeling because it is family owned and run and not a big corporation. I know alot of people that drive past several Vet clinics just to go to Underhill. I understand that they will assist in finding transport for you and your pet if you are flying into Orlando for your appt. from Executive or OIA. They have good relationships with University of Florida and University of Pennsylvania for 2nd opinions.
