Orlando's equivalent to the Great White Way..
The Scene
Tickets for some shows may start at $45 and concessions are anything but frugal, but in Orlando's theater community, this is as close to the Great White Way as it gets. With wonderful acoustics and a socialite atmosphere, it's a venue that defines the word "plush."
The Experience
The angular exterior screams "modern chic," with tinted glass and red brick, as well as numerous well-placed balconies and atriums--perfect for mingling and people-watching. Inside, it's just as lovely, with wall-to-wall velvet carpeting, soft gold lighting, and lots of polished brass. The auditorium can at times feel cramped enough to make a claustrophobe of even the most relaxed person--seats are literally pressed into one another, and those sitting in the middle of an aisle must crawl over everyone to get to the hallway. Once the show starts and the music swells, you feel like you're in New York.
Small Walls With A Big Welcome... I have been performing at Bob Carr for a number of years, and I have to say I enjoy it there a lot. The theatre itself may be a tad small but as for being a great place to see a show, I rate it very highly. The best seats are every seat, but balcony tends to be my favorite still. It has great sound, a great set up, great serivce, and not to metion some of the most amazing shows! Well worth it!
