Editorial Review for SAK Comedy Lab – by Eyal Goldshmid

The Scene
A former jazz club that still carries the intimacy of its previous occupant. The Lab itself contains 215 movie-theater-like seats, all wrapped around a large stage area. Everyone gets a great view--a priority of the entertainers' in-your-face shows.

The Comedy
High-energy, obscenity-free improv; perfect for families or those just out for some goofy, innocent fun. Surprisingly, after more than 10 years of performing, the act still seems fresh, even to the regulars. The shows have been well-attended by locals for years.

Famous Names
The SAK entertainers often perform at Disney, and graduates include comedian Wayne Brady ("Who's Line Is It Anyway?"), the voice of Daffy Duck in "Space Jam," writers of "Rescuers" sequels, and, most importantly, the voice of the Snapple guy.

I had a really good time when I went here. The facility is nothing to brag about, but it's comfortable (you feel like you're in a friend's basement). They sell bottled drinks, snacks, candy, and cookies. The performers seem like they have a lot of fun doing the shows and they really try to get the audience involved. For the best time, don't be afraid to volunteer and shout out crazy answers. It's a rule that there's no cursing, but it's nice to know that things can still be funny without being obscene. Beware if you go during the week though- they have to have at least 20 people in the audience to do a show or else they'll cancel (and you can't know until about 5 minutes before the show begins). The weekend is probably your best bet.

Pros: friendly atmosphere, audience involvement, funny

Cons: hard to find, cancellations
