Located in downtown Orlando's trendy Thornton Park, this collection of five historic buildings from the early 1900s combines European design, Art Deco colors and the casual, gracious elements that make the Southern lifestyle so appealing. Urban oasis? Definitely. With a touch of the plantation tossed in, French doors, wraparound balconies and the secluded pool and hot tub area are cloaked in the shade of giant oaks.

Twelve studios and suites, with evocative names such as Magnolia, Roosevelt and Carriage House, are havens of romance, with such intimate touches as private entrances, furnished veranda porches, bistro tables and chairs, claw-foot and garden tubs, rocking chairs and four-poster beds. The B&B borders Lake Eola, home to a jogging path, bird sanctuary and paddleboats. It's also within walking distance to the financial district, peppered with nightlife, high art and shops. For those travelers weary of the city's theme park domination, this is a lovely, authentic cultural and natural experience.
