What People Are Saying About Independent Bar

In Short – New wavers and indie hipsters shimmy and shake on the massive dance floor underneath angels hanging from the ceiling and to videos playing on the numerous TV monitors at this bi-level, downtown Orlando landmark. The party continues on the outdoor patio where patrons ogle at passersby or hangout at one of three bars. Others sit back and sip cheap drinks in cozy booths while listening to the tunes from yesteryear and today. –

I mean i know tabu is next door but Jeez!.. everytime I go theres a drunk ffat girl pulling someones hair. a friend gettting thrown down the stairs or bouncers beating someone down I dont know whos at fault..but ive never seen anything like it....but i will say this..im a gay guy, im sure I could go there and makeout with a guy and nobody would care....ive even been asked out:O)...so i guess if you love morrissey and siouxsie then you have to be pretty open minded. and btw theres a door guy there i wouldnt mind making out with for the rest of my life ( freaking beautiful!)

  • Pros: good music, hot door guys, great place to dance
  • Cons: CHANGE THE MUSIC UP!! STOP WEARING OUT THE SAME ten 80's SONGSbartenders are jerks, bouncers are violent and cwowd is somewhat low class

A Childish, Nasty Snake-Pit. Avoid It.

by Truthblade at Citysearch

Avoid this place. People come to the Independent Bar because they think it will be this "breath of fresh air" from the "meaner" and "less fun", more "mainstream" clubs, but the truth is actually the opposite... The Independent Bar is actually much, much worse than those places.

The staff at the Independent Bar is incredibly conceited and mean-spirited, and the owner thinks their openly malicious, predatory, and unfair behavior is "cute"... when he's told about it, he just smirks in a delighted, amused way. These people are way too full of themselves, and they need to lose A LOT of business because of it.

The Independent Bar has this great reputation which is totally due to the quality of the music and the "wall o' video screens" but that's not enough to make up for the overall sheer mean-spiritedness of the place. The staff has great fun randomly picking people who seem "not mean", "not good-looking", or "not in fashion" enough for the place, and then they just have a field day treating you like dog waste. Even at the Viper Room in Los Angeles they're not like this.

Over time, the Independent Bar has managed to drive away everybody but the most conceited and lousy people in Orlando. It might seem bizarre, but the people are actually much more fun and approachable in the other, more "mainstream" clubs in Orlando.

And there you have it. Go somewhere else to have fun... You'll be glad you did.

  • Pros: Good music
  • Cons: Horrible, lousy staff and clientele

Totally worth being tired on Thursday!!!

by FoShoYo at Citysearch

If you're like me, you have a professional day job and week nights are really hard. I decided to take the chance and go to Wave Pop last Wednesday, promising myself 2 beers and in bed by 12:30am.

Yeah, no, I was there all night! It was non stop dancing and an amazing time! I was so thrilled! It is the most fun I have had downtown in a long time! It's Ibar Thursday& Fridays meet Saturdays, but better! Sitting at the bar you see people get really excited and run out on the dance floor, then come back and then get really excited again. It really is a great time!

The bartenders are awesome as always! I read some other reviews that there was a long wait at the bar, there are 3 bars and I never had trouble at any of them, but if the back bar gets busy, pick another, not hard.

All and all it was great! A good mixed crowd, a little something for everyone! I can't wait to go back!

  • Pros: Best Music around, fun crowd, hot bartenders, good drink specials
