In Short – The smell of hickory smoke--its tangy scent as dense as the humid Florida air--reaches diners from blocks away. They also cater to parties as large as 400 and can do buffets or fancy, sit-down plate service. Try the pork platter or one of the sandwiches--tender and juicy with just the right amount of smoky flavor. If barbecue isn't your bag, opt for another southern specialty like Brunswick stew. Novices should sample the mild sauce before deciding on the appropriate wattage.
Bubbalicious BBQ off Kirkman O-Town
by craigulus
This is one thing a Chicago BBQ lover can agree with Kansas on. I recently went to the Kirkman Rd location and was reminded of why it had been a year since my only other visit ( I forgot)!
I worked 7 years for Mikey D and owned a Jamaican restaurant for 5 yrs.
Visit -Saturday afternoon Nov 07
Service-"D" When I ordered "take out" I had some misgivings, as I was used to ordering spare ribs "by the slab", I mistakenly thought that I had negotiated this and settled on baby back instead of my desired spare ribs. I could just understand through the West Indian Island accent of the order taker but I think he said something about getting 4 spare ribs if I should choose.
I waited for appx 10-15 mins in spite of only one previously ordered guest before mine and a crew of 4 in the grill area.
Cleanliness-"B" what I saw of the restaurant was good.
Quality-"D" I guess if your expectations are not very high YOU might rate it higher and as I stated, I prefer spare ribs. The baby backs lacked flavor and not much flavor was added by the sauce. The meat was tender but I would think not "rubbed" or marinated with seasonings. The sides were filler for the small portion.
Value-"D"- I think I got about 4-5 baby back ribs. At first I was dissappointed by only getting one small container of sauce, after I had requested "Allotta Sauce", but it proved to be enough sauce for the small portion.
Ambiance"?" The order before mine was an LPGA tour pro, forgot her name, I wanna forget the experience.
Cecil's Texas Style BBQ**** is lots better (imho), larger portions, better sauce, better choice of sides. All the cops eat there.
I'd still give my "eye-teeth" for "Lem's" or "Carsons" out of Chicago.
- Pros: Nice "Wall of Fame" photos
- Cons: Quality,Service and Value
Pulled pork was a dissappointment
by bbq_critic
I recently tried this restaurant on Lee Rd, after seeing it sometime ago highlighted on TV. It was truly a big dissappointment. I only tired the pulled pork sandwich. Won't be back.
- Pros: N/A
- Cons: BBQ pulled pork was unflavorful
great food & service
by mk407
I've only been to the Bubbalou's in the Alafaya location. The service was great. The food was better than I expected - came w/texas toast, baked beans, cole slaw, & fries; & the baby back ribs practically fell off the bone - very tender. Sauces are good stuff. Great price for great food. Pulled pork is okay; I'd probably get that elsewhere. Ribs are great though.
- Pros: inexpensive, great ribs & sauces
