Editorial Review for Antonio's La Fiamma Ristorante – by Mary Meehan
The Scene
Located just a few hundred yards from Maitland's Lake Lily, Antonio's La Fiamma has a unique dual identity. Lunch crowds are undoubtedly familiar with their downstairs deli, which serves up traditional favorites such as calzones, pizzas and sandwiches. But dinner crowds flock to the upstairs room menu of high-end Italian entrees and wines. In addition, there's a full-service liquor store adjacent to the deli.
The Food
The upstairs menu is filled with delightful choices such as tender chicken scarpelli, or shrimp scampi in sauce kissed with a touch of garlic. The zuppa di pesce, an assortment of fresh shrimp, calamari, scallops, fish and Canadian lobster tail in a seafood broth served over a bed of linguine, is excellent. For dessert, the tiramisu is a heavenly choice. The waitstaff upstairs, many with authentic Italian accents, are also top-notch. The more casual downstairs deli-style cafe has a less elaborate menu but the food is equally well-executed.

Four of us had dinner, for the first time, at Antonio's last weekend. We dined in the upstairs area and everything was wonderful. We each ordered something different (I had the filet) and every choice was delicious. The filet, by the way, was like butter but without the awful over-tenderized texture of some served at other places. Two of us had Pinot Noir by the glass and it was like velvet. Our server was an Italian gentleman who anticipated our every need. Though we are from Miami, we will absolutely return when we are in the area again.
Pros: Food and service
Cons: Not easy to find the upstairs dining area unless you ask.

My wife and I ate in the downstairs cafe, and although it was crowded and nosier than we expected, the food was enjoyable. It was a nice casual atmosphere to enjoy with friends, but do not expect romance to blossom with your neighbors less than a foot away. In fact, you may even be able to sample their dishes as well! Overall, the service was attentive, the experience unique, and the food worth the trouble. Buon appetito.
Pros: Broad food selection, Tasty, Friendly staff
Cons: Cramped, Noisy
