The globe lights decorated with bushy bandito mustaches and garish, sparkling sombreros don't add much to the decor, but the decorations can't dim the food at this family-owned Tex-Mex eatery. For an appetizer, choose either the slightly spicy bean dip (a family recipe), the creamy, slightly spicy queso dip, or a quesadilla. From there, move on to the sizzling fajitas, marinated strips of grilled beef or chicken flavored with bell peppers and onions, brought still steaming to your table with ample portions of homemade pico de gallo, guacamole, cheese, lettuce, and sour cream. The tamales, drenched in a thick, hot red sauce, are also excellent. All dishes are served with beans and rice.

I have been to the Altamonte Amigos at least 10-15 times a year for the last 6 years since moving to Altamonte and most of my experiences have been great. I think I can remember two times out of all those visits that did not meet my expectations. The food has always been great. The service is usually really good. This is probably one of two places around this area that I can always make a safe bet on. All of the surrounding restaurants are either good or terrible 100% of the time. I love the salsa, it always tastes fresh with the warm tortilla chips. This is the best salsa compared to any other Mexican restaurant around here. I recommend the Chicken Chimichanga with the queso sauce, that's my favorite and it's always great.

While this restaurant looks cozy and nice from outside, the dining experience was nothing like it! My husband and I are both vegetarians and went for Cheese Enchiladas and Bean Burritos (recommended by our waiter). The food was rather cold when it came out, the cheese inside the enchiladas not melted at all. We asked for it to be re-heated, and it was still cold inside the second time around, but too crisp and burnt in some areas. We've eaten in many Mexican restaurants, and this one is not recommendable, and in our personal opinion, it certainly isn't Orlando's No.1! They did take the Enchiladas off the bill.

Velveeta is the cheese of choice at Amigos. That must be what puts the "Tex" in "Tex-Mex". My husband enjoyed the fajitas, but we both hated the salsa. It was very bland and had an odd texture.
