Editorial Review for Joe's Italian Ice – by Sylvia Whitman

The Scene
A box with a big parking lot and a small concrete patio. If you don't want to slurp in the car, you can sit outside at round plastic or wood picnic tables, some of which have umbrellas.

The Food
The first Florida franchise of a famous Philly chain, Joe's serves three textures of the cold stuff: soft swirl ¿ la DQ, rich Petrucci's ice cream, and water ices. Especially if you're thirsty, nothing beats the ices, which Joe's churns up daily from water, franchised syrup, a little sugar, and fresh fruit puree (when applicable). A batch gets tossed if it lasts more than 48 hours. Skip the coffeehouse flavors like Java Joe and Joeconut and the dairy-laced "velvets" and go with straight fruit¿honeydew, mango, even good ol' cherry. If you like your cream and your thirst quenched, too, order a smoothie, your choices of ice and ice cream whirred together. And for a pure fat and cholesterol fix, ask for a scoop of Petrucci's moose tracks, studded with chocolate chunks and peanut butter cups.

This is the best Italian Ice in the world. I have never tasted anything like it before and I doubt I ever will again. I give it 10 spoons up!
