The Skinny
Do you miss the old Michael Jackson? Cried the tears of a clown lately? If so, you can easily find the antidote at the Motown Cafe at Universal's CityWalk. Smokey Robinson, The Supremes, and the King of Pop (when he was a cartoon with his brothers) are all remembered at this themed restaurant and dance club.
Music and Memories
Nightly, a live band plays Motown hits from the '60s all the way up to the '90s. The cafe usually closes down early in the week, but weekends find an older, family crowd peppered with the young and nostalgic twisting away under the giant 28-foot vinyl of the Jackson 5's "ABC." It's a good place to shake the cobwebs loose for the evening ahead. The museum side of Motown Cafe is represented with a wall of gold records, company artifacts, and glass displays honoring supreme Motown performers, including a pre-surgical Michael Jackson tribute.
