This quiet oasis in a busy mall adds more variety to the menu than your average sushi bar.. The Scene

Understated--round paper lanterns, rice paper in partitions and lots of gleaming wood. Contrasting dark cabinets carved with Buddhist verses and a display of decorative saucers back the open sushi bar. Food arrives at a leisurely pace (especially for a raw entree), but servers willingly explain what's what.

The Food

Beautifully presented and fish-centric. The a la carte sushi menu offers more than 60 choices, but at $3-10.95 per piece, these labor-intensive delicacies add up. Heartier entrees include tempura, cutlets, and, since one of the chefs is Korean, a Korean specialty or two. Start with miso soup. As a "lunchbox special," shrimp tempura comes in two long, rectangular boxes, which stack for easy carrying. Each compartment contains something tasty: rice, iceberg lettuce with ginger dressing, gyoza dumplings with dipping sauce, California rolls with pickled ginger and sinus-clearing wasabi, and then several crunchy shrimp and slabs of squash and sweet potato. Try the red bean ice cream for dessert--it's vaguely fruity and delicious. As a sampler, the sushi and sashimi platter doesn't present enough variety.

Get rid of the shorts!. With the waitresses wearing these tiny black daisy duke shorts, it reminds me of an Asian Hooters. Despite that quirk, I have enjoyed all of the sushi I've eaten there (except the octopus roll, but I think I just don't like octopus). Everything seemed fresh, and I especially enjoyed one of the rolls, which was wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber instead of nori. Yummy. The service was fine, the decor and bathrooms are neat and clean, and the high backed booths provide a nice amount of privacy. Plus, it's a great place to go if you want something relatively quick before catching a movie next door.
