Editorial Review for Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex – by Glenn Mobley

Overview
The center is only a hop, skip and one giant leap for mankind from Orlando and well worth the trip. The main attraction, the Kennedy Space Center Tour, covers three main areas: the observation gantry, the Apollo/Saturn V center and the International Space Station. While observing the space shuttle sites is interesting, they're a mere appetizer for the next two stops. At the Apollo/Saturn V center you'll live through an Apollo 8 mission, complete with a blast of window-shaking special effects.

The Appeal

Outside mission control, the walk under the horizontal Saturn V rocket is humbling and awe-inspiring. The final stop, the International Space Station, features actual components that will be shuttled to space on future missions. Before you go, catch an Imax movie for a 3-D space experience.

When you've had your fill of how thick-headed humans can be, a trip to the space center can be encouraging. It's nice to know we belong to the same species that dreamed up how to build a craft to take people into space. It's lots of fun, and awe-inspiring, to wander among the old rockets on the grounds. The IMAX movies are worth a look (the popcorn prices are out of this world *grin* ), and the gift shop has lots of neat things.

Great place to teach kids the history of space, and see everything first hand, up close.
