Editorial Review for Rose & Crown Pub – by Kristin Harmel

The Scene
Filled with simple chandeliers, dark wood decor and a jolly staff of British servers and bartenders, the Rose & Crown is as close as you'll come to a Thames-side pub without leaving the United States. Find a seat at a heavy wooden table in a room filled with odd decorations (dartboards, British street signs, hunting paraphernalia)--or enjoy the view from the patio. Reservations are recommended at this sit-down restaurant, but you can also walk in without reservations during non-peak hours.

The Food
You'll find traditional British pub fare at moderate prices. The fruit and cheese plate--a staple of any true British pub--is delicious but small. The lamb barley soup is a perfect accompaniment to any meal, and the pub's fish and chips platter rivals any in Great Britain. There's also a full-service bar that offers cocktails as well as British ales, lager and stouts.

Time-Saver

The full-service bar, which is roped off from the rest of the restaurant, serves a huge variety of libations, as well as many of the restaurant's meals in smaller portions at lower prices.

2 Star Rating: Below Average

We KNOW real British and Irish dining fare, having had it over in the U.K. and Ireland, as well as American and Canadian restaurants that focus on that type of food. The Guinness Stew at Rose and Crown was NOT what we expected! The strange spices overwhelmed the stew and made it spicy. Mexican and Indian foods are supposed to be spicy... Guinness stew is not! The fruit and cheese plate was tiny, and absoultely not worth it. On the plus side, service was good, and the drink selection was decent enough.

Pros: Beer Selection, Service, Design/Atmosphere

Cons: Poor Food, Poor Value, Bad Stew!
